Week 10: Monsters

While reading Monsters by Emil Farris, I was consistently captivated by the hand drawn style art.  The story had about 400 pages, but easy to ready, not all the pages had text or a lot.  The story seemed to have influences from both the 60s & 70s monster movies and issues she must have faced.  This story seemed to have a lot of plots and sub-plots, but no matter how crazy or deep things get, the theme remains to monsters.
The author of course is the little girl in the story who transforms into the monster.  I’d like to think she is going back to what she felt around this age, the time one begins to understand and question things.  Because the story also revolves around this little girl monster, reading about murder, sex, adultery, and masturbation felt a bit strange but I can see this is also how a child would feel when coming across these situations.  Overall the story and illustration was very interesting and worth the read.
